Known by the familiar epithet 'Great Southern Land', Australia is an island continent with a coastline extending for approximately 34,000 kilometres. Bordered in the west by the Indian Ocean and to the east by the Pacific Ocean, it also experiences tropical waters of the Timor, Arafura and Coral Seas to the north, and the cold waters of the Southern Ocean to the south. Providing a multiplicity of marine environments, the surrounding seas support an extraordinary diversity of wildlife.

Struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 200 of the Great Southern Land 2024 2oz Gold Proof Mother of Pearl Coin.

DESIGN

The coin's reverse features a central mother of pearl insert in the shape of the Australian continent. It is encircled with depictions of iconicmarine creatures found in Australian waters, comprising (from top right) a sea turtle, seahorse, blue-ringed octopus, clownfish, starfish, stingray, and great white shark. As well as representations of marine plants, the design includes 'P125' mintmark signifying The Perth Mint's 125th anniversary in 2024, and the coin's weight, purity, and 2024 year-date.

The obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the monetary denomination.

PRESENTATION

Each coin is presented in a prestigious display timber display case within an illustrated shipper and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
