Created by author Ian Fleming in 1953, producers Albert R. ‘Cubby’ Broccoli and Harry Saltzman brought Bond to cinema screens for the first time in 1962 with Dr. No. Almost 60 years later James Bond continues to entertain and excite audiences around the world in one of the longest running and successful film franchises.

James Bond is one of a handful of elite agents with a ‘licence to kill’, denoted by a code name beginning with ‘00’.

In Diamonds Are Forever, released in 1971, Bond tracks SPECTRE boss Blofeld to the US where he discovers his evil nemesis is stockpiling diamonds to power a space-based laser weapon. Played by Sean Connery, 007 must neutralise the satellite and prevent the supervillain from carrying out his latest threat to global stability.

Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu.

Design

The coin’s reverse design features a moon buggy 007 uses to escape across the Nevada desert and the Bond Family Crest bearing the motto ORBIS NON SUFFICIT (the world is not enough) and the number 50, as well as the iconic diamond satellite and inscription ‘DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER’.

The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse with the coin’s 2021 year-date, weight, purity and monetary denomination.
